At True North Outpost, we believe the best part of climbing outdoors is being in beautiful places with good friends. Rock climbing will definitely get your adrenaline going as you climb 60+ feet off the ground toward the top. Our local area provides numerous climbing opportunities and we have selected the best of the best for you to enjoy.

The cliffs that you will be climbing are perfectly hidden in a dense northern forest, where cascading creeks and beautiful views are in abundance. The granite and quartz composite rock formations make for a stable yet challenging climb for everyone from first time climbers to seasoned veterans. Our experiences and knowledgeable climbing guides are here to help you from start to finish.

So if you are ready to get outside for an exciting and rewarding challenge, then an outdoor climbing trip is exactly what you are looking for.

Trip Description

Start your trip at the outpost where you will check in, meet your guide and jump in the shuttle. From there it is a quick 40 minute ride out to the climb that winds through beautiful back roads. Once we park the shuttle, you can expect to enjoy some beautiful scenery on a short hike along a gently flowing creek in to find the rock face you will be climbing. Once you get all of your gear set up, its a quick scramble down to the bottom of the rock face.

Once you are at the bottom, your guides walk you thorough a quick tutorial with tips and tricks to help you conquer the 60+ foot granite rock face you are about to climb. Then you are free to climb on! You will be tied into a rope (on belay) at all times with multiple back ups for complete safety. With your guide handling all the ropes and gear, all you have to focus on is the top of the wall. The routes vary in difficulty from easy to medium to hard, making this trip a perfect fit for any skill level. When you reach the top, you will be generously rewarded with an incredible view of the surrounding creek-side canyon.

After you are done climbing, it is back to the top for lunch and a much deserved break. During lunch you are free to explore the area around the climbing wall. The whole of the area is a wonderful mix of wild forest and high alpine cliffs. After lunch its time to pack up and head back to the shuttle and on to your next adventure!

For our full day trip adventurers

The journey continues down the dirt road to the area we call the Lost Ridges for a beautiful hike to the cliff pinnacle named Turkey Vulture Promontory. Your guides will lead you through the middle of the wildest and most remote high alpine forests the Upper Peninsula of Michigan has to offer. The top of the trail rewards you again with yet another breathtaking view of the surrounding area. At the top of this massive cliff face you will be able to take one more break and get some incredible pictures to add to your memories of this one of a kind adventure. Then it’s back down the hill to the shuttle where you will be brought back to the outpost and set free to experience your next adventure!
